Dorm Room Decor

One month and many amazon orders later my dorm room is finally done (at least for now). It didn't turn out exactly the way I had planned but I love the way it looks now. It ended up being a lot more colorful (read: pink) than I had expected but I love how it brightens up the space and makes it really welcoming in my opinion. Obviously this is extremely over done for a dorm especially considering I'm only going to be living here for a year but I couldn't help myself and interior design is such a hobby of mine.

I've written a post entirely dedicated to decorative trays so I won't go on too much here but of course I had to incorporate one somewhere in my room. I put a rustic finish one from T.J. Maxx on top of the university provided dresser, it keeps everything organized but adds a decorative element to the area. Above it I just stuck up some old prints I had and I made a wool hanging to add to the whole natural texture vibe in this corner of the room.

I kept my bed white because white beds are more comfortable don't fight me on this. I put a woven pink throw across the end to add a little color to it since I didn't get any throw pillows for it. Above the bed I DIY'd two abstract paintings using the colors I wanted in my room. It was such an easy project which mostly just involved brushing paint randomly across a canvas and the end product looks so good. Under the bed is the star of the room in my opinion. I ordered this rug off amazon and I'm so in love with it the colors are perfect, it looks much more expensive than it was and it's so soft to just relax on which, is exactly what I wanted. The rug is definitely what pulls the whole room together. Next the bed I just put a small ottoman/storage box which brought in some white and gold elements.

For the desk I knew I wanted to do something about the shelves since the wood was a little overwhelming. I decided to get some cheap contact paper off amazon (of course) and covered the bottom two shelves. This kind of neutralized the shelves making it look a little more clean. I didn't want to go overboard with the decoration here so I hung up two clipboards with some command strips and bought some pretty look folders for the desk. On the top two shelves I decided to keep the wood and style some frames, book and artificial leaves to which I added some fairy lights as well. On the whole I think the desk area is balanced out an ties in the elements from the rest of the room.

That's all for my dorm, let me know what you think!
